As explained on the previous page, I will enter in Laos via this place.
This is how I will process:
1/ Get to Chiang Khong:
From the Phu Chi Fa Forest Park I will have to find a bus to get to Chiang Khong. If I cannot find it, I will just come back to Chiang Rai and find a bus there, which costs 65 Bahts.
However, I heard that some agencies might organise tours which go to the Phu Chi Fa park and to Chiang Khong afterwards. We will see that.
I might do a small tour in the town before to leave, even if there is not much to do there, it is good to relax a little bit.
2/ From Chiang Khong to the river:
Then, after the bus, I will have to take a tuk tuk to get to the river boarder which is 4 kms away from the town of Chiang Khong. It costs approximately 40 Bahts to get there.
3/ Crossing the Mekong River:
After showing the passport, officers allow you to take a boat in order to cross the boarder. It costs 40 Bahts to cross and it is apparently a nice experience. However, I read that it changes and they make us cross the Friendship Bridge for 25 Bahts now.
4/ Crossing the boarder:
On the other side of the river, I arrive in Laos at Huay Xai. this is here that I will do the visa which will allow me to stay up to 30 days in the country. To know more about the process for the visa, go on my next page by clicking here.
